Established in 1981, the Office of Electronic Media Communications
supports and advances the University and its mission through
video, web and electronic communications. EMC's communications specialists
have years of experience in their respective fields. EMC matches
this experience with high-end video capability and state-of- the-art
electronic communications resources.
Our staff personifies the University’s
"can-do spirit". For SU productions, EMC has brought back video
footage from China, Japan, England and the Calgary Olympics. We’ve
been on the tarmac as the Concorde took off, shot the Dead Sea Scrolls
at the Field Museum, been "on location" at the White House, NASA’s
Houston Space Center and the back lot at Warner Bros. Our crews
have filmed out of helicopters and SkyCranes, uplinked international
television shows, produced live telecasts seen on CNN, broadcast
SU’s commencement ceremonies, and streamed webcasts of University
events live over the Internet. As a testament to production quality,
we’ve shot for Disney, Warner Bros., CNN and NBC. Our video productions
have been hosted by such SU alums as 60 minutes Steve Kroft, NBC’s
Bob Costas and Marv Albert, TV legend Dick Clark, columnist William
Safire, actress songster Vannessa L. Williams, film and theater
star Frank Langella and Fox’s Dick Stockton.
It’s always a challenge to meet tight
deadlines and keep quality high. But EMC has done it and in the
process has "fringe benefit" opportunities to shoot and interview
personalities for SU like Mike Wallace, Ken Burns, Colin Powell,
Ted Koppel, Jay Oliva, Elie Wiesel, Jim Brown, Marcy Carsey, Henry
Kissinger, Doris Kearns Goodwin, David McCullough, Hillary Clinton,
Ron Meyer, Aaron Sorkin, Oliver Stone and others.
On the Internet
side, Electronic Media Communications helped the Office of Admissions
establish Syracuse University as one of the first schools in the
country to offer its library of recruiting videos online. EMC works
cooperatively with schools, colleges and offices at the University
on their web site's design and content management. EMC provides
live Internet streaming of major University events such as Commencement,
The Commitment to Learning campaign celebration and Chancellor's
address to the University community. EMC is also available for consultation
and strategic planning on Internet-based issues.
